Intended Uses of Assessments in Mathematics and Science:
School accountability– Assessment scores are included in annual school reporting to state departments of education to gauge the percentage of students meeting proficiency goals for schools and are used to determine if schools are placed on a state-mandated improvement plan.
Teacher accountability– Assessment scores are used to evaluate teachers through measuring improvement in student performance.
Inform instruction or curriculum– Assessment scores are used to provide feedback to teachers about their instructional practices, to guide curriculum decisions, and/or to determine appropriate instructional interventions for students.
College readiness– Assessment scores are used to determine whether students are prepared for college-level work.
Career readiness– Assessment scores are used to determine whether students are prepared for jobs or careers.
Graduation requirement– Passing assessments are required for high school graduation.
