The reporting of sub-scores for science assessment allows educators to relate content assessed at a grade level to curriculum taught in classrooms. The information on categories of science used with sub-scores shown in the table below were used in 2017-18, and several states indicated that the categories would likely change with new science assessments being developed.
- Twenty-six states indicated that they currently report sub-scores for their science assessments and six state that they plan to report sub-scores.
- The majority of states indicated that they report achievement level descriptors for their science assessments.
